The Inspiration Behind Wheels 4 Change, my father

In October 2010 I went to Alabama where my father has been squatting for the past several year. People ask me what is squatting? I say it is an nice way of saying homeless. My father functioned as a productive citizen until 1988 when he helped organize a welcome home parade for Viet Nam Veterans, Firebase Cleveland. My father walked away from his life twenty years after he came home from Viet Nam. If you ask my mother she will tell you we lost my father on mall C in downtown Cleveland after the parade. The summer after Firebase Cleveland our family went on vacation to Maryland camping than to DC to the Viet Nam Memorial wall. My dad wore his old army jacket and bought some combat boots for the trip. Firebase Cleveland was the beginning of my fathers journey into homelessness that has lasted more then 20 years. The main footage of my father is taken when I stayed with him at his camp he built in Alabama.
I believe that it is important to meet people where they are at and respect that people have their own journey to healing. My goal for this film is to increase the publics awareness of the long term affects of war and to tell the stories of war healing from veterans and their families.
