About Wheels 4 Change and Cassie Schumacher
After qualifying for the toughest endurance bicycle race in the entire world, Race Across America, in 2010, I decided to use the race as a platform to raise awareness for veteran’s issues; the selfsame veterans have served our country so unselfishly. I helped create Wheels4Change in 2010 to do just that. Our mission is to take action to heal our nation’s veterans. I felt that in addition to advocacy, I needed to help find a way to do outreach to veterans and family that were not being reached.
In the fall of 2011 I helped co- found an organization called Pedal For Heroes. The mission of Pedal For Heroes is to help Honor Fallen Heroes, Support Military Families, and Serve Our Veterans. Pedal For Heroes started as a one-day event where participants exercise for one minute for every Ohio soldier that has died in the Middle East since September 11, 2001. Our first event was February 26, 2012 – eleven different fitness facilities hosted a Pedal for Heroes event raising over $16,000 for local charitable veterans organizations. In September 2012 we became an official 501(C)(3) charity and it is our goal to grow to be a national organization.
